Rain Jackets

Rain Jackets

Waterproof: I've only been rained on once with it, but it seemed to do the job. I read a detailed review where the reviewer said he shaped part of the jacket like a cup, filled it with water, and left it sit for 24 hours with no leaking (he claimed that Gore-Tex is not as waterproof). I tried a similar experiment. I turned the stuff sack inside out (made of the same material as the jacket), filled it with water, and hung it by the drawstring. A few hours later, there were a few drops forming on the surface in a few spots. When I emptied it and turned it right-side-out, the areas that had leaked seemed to have water sticking to them, unlike the rest of the surface where the water rolled right off. Perhaps the leaky areas had small abrasions from being carried around in my pack. Anyway, I wouldn't consider the tiny amount of leakage significant considering that water pressure was applied for hours.

Rain Jackets

A raincoat is a waterproof or water-resistant coat worn to protect the body from rain. The term rain jacket is sometimes used to refer to raincoats that are waist length. A rain jacket may be combined with a pair of rain pants to make a rain suit.Modern raincoats are often constructed of breathable, waterproof fabrics such as Gore-Tex or Tyvek and coated nylons. These fabrics allow some air to pass through, allowing the garment to 'breathe' so that sweat vapour can escape. The amount of pouring rain a raincoat can handle is sometimes meassured in the unit millimeters, water gauge.Keep yourself reliably dry and protected from the elements with the Coleman Men-Inchs PVC/Poly Rain Suit. Constructed of durable, waterproof 35mm PVC-coated polyester, the Rain Suit includes a rain jacket and pants. The jacket features a drawstring hood, center front zipper with storm flap to keep out moisture, back and armhole vents for air flow, and two lower pockets. The pants feature a drawstring elasticized waist for a good fit, leg openings with zipper closure & snap adjustment, articulated knees for ease of movement, and 2 convenient slit pockets that give you access to pockets on the pants you wear underneath. The Rain Suit stores compactly in the included carry bag.
